Cloth and Chair

Medium: pencil

DIRECT OBSERVATION

  • Put a chair with a cloth draped over it in a simple environment.
  • The goal is to depict the chair using two point perspective and depict the cloth with the use of chiaroscuro.
  • Both of these devices were discovered and implemented during the Renaissance by every major artist.

(Do not copy the student examples. This is a DIRECT OBSERVATION drawing)

Be sure to:

  • Let the angular parts of the chair show.
  • Do not cover more than 50% of the chair with the cloth.
  • Set the chair in an interesting environment.
  • Use two point perspective.
  • Keep the vanishing points off the page.
