Monochromatic Watercolor

Monochromatic: containing or using only one color.

Using the watercolor paper given to you in class, create a monochromatic watercolor painting form a photo you took or from a segment of a magazine photo.

The following example is a watercolor created from a photo Mrs. Russo Scherr took. The original was a color photo.   The painting was made by layering the blue hues from the lightest to the darkest in successive layers.

Keep in mind the rules of watercolor.

Start with:

  • the lightest things
  •  the largest areas
  •  the furthest objects
