Jessica has always worked in collage but after a car accident in 2006, she took her passion further and developed her unique style of mark and pattern making through recycled magazines. The handling of her chosen media is often applied in overlapping and mirrored layers of color and pattern forming atmospheric portraits and landscapes that intentionally evoke sensations of memory recollection and internal evolution. Her subjects are frequently depicted in solitary, social and spiritual situations. She uses tiny images and splashes of color from magazines to form her palette. She believes that color is a powerful form of communication and it is shaped by social, emotional, religious, cultural, and political influences. She uses color as a tool with many strands and that has the power to subliminally convey values and stories in her portraits.
