Color Theory: Paul Klee

Research:

  1. Color Theory: Describe/Define tints, shades, complementary colors, and analogous colors. Use examples.
  2. How did Klee's use color?
  3. Klee's architectural-inspired artworks.

Find an old book that you can destroy by tearing out 2 pages. You will apply various types of color theory to designs that you create on book pages that are inspired by Paul Klee's architectural paintings.

Media: Ideally you would do this with tempera, gouache or acrylic paint. However, you could also do this with layering colored pencils.

Here is an example of the process of applying tints.

Draw geometric shapes inspired by Klee and architecture. Outline with a marker like a sharpie or dark pen.
Add white
Add my base color (Blue)
Add a variety of tints of blue (Tints are a color with white added)
Add more.
Go over lines if you want more definition.
