My students had the option to create a non religious altar using gold leaf, collage, painting on a triptych that they created or use a self portrait to create an icon piece along with gold leaf guilding.
What is an icon? Can a contemporary work of art function as an icon? Why or why not? What do you worship (outside of religion) that you could build an altar piece to honor.
