Direct Observation Drawing in Colored pencil. Place an object in a clear vessel with an object. Analyze the distortion created from the refraction. Carefully look at all the shapes, highlights and shadows in the water and draw them first lightly in pencil and then colored pencil. Three examples of refraction studies. Notice how light traveling through water makes the placement and dimension of the submerged object change. Colors are saturated by pressing hard on the colored pencils.
