Using traditional lantern-making techniques as inspiration, learn how to build a sculpture with sculpture, paper, reeds, and wire (perhaps some raffia too). The video is geared for middle school art students in my class but the techniques can be applied to artists of all ages and skill levels. Drawing inspiration from time-honored methods, these sculptures breathe new life into the age-old crafts of reed weaving and lantern crafting, breathing life into abstract shapes that dance between light and shadow.
